Founder of ClassicShaving.com

The “Shavemeister”

Ray Dupont, the founder of ClassicShaving.com, lost his long battle with cancer on Saturday, April 8th.  Thanks to the care and devotion of Hospice of Visiting Nurses Association of Riverside County, one of numerous hospice care organizations nationwide that assist terminal patients at the end of their lives (with no regard to that patient’s ability to pay), Ray passed peacefully from this world at his home in Palm Springs, California.  He leaves behind his wife of thirty-eight years, Laurie, his daughter, Danielle, granddaughter Samantha, two sisters and three brothers.  He was fifty-four years old.

Ray’s life, although shortened by disease, was full and varied.  He served honorably in the U.S. army where he saw action in Viet Nam, earning a Purple Heart.  Other accomplishments include service as a District Commander in the Coast Guard Auxiliary, running a successful Marine Towing and Salvage company, creating and running one of the largest Mid-Atlantic bass boat dealerships, and serving on the board of the Accokeek foundation.  Of course, visitors to this site will know him for his latest entrepreneurial success, the creation and stewardship of ClassicShaving.com.

Under Ray Dupont’s management, ClassicShaving.com has earned a reputation for excellence by stressing no-nonsense customer service; those who order our products always find us willing and eager to help with their individual needs.  That dedication will not falter with Ray’s passing.  His legacy of warmth, careful attention to detail, and scrupulous business practice will continue with Danielle Dupont and her husband William, both of whom have played integral roles in the business for some time now.  As the practice of wet shaving enjoys a renaissance thanks to Ray’s respect and appreciation for history, his forward-thinking business philosophy lives on in those who loved him.

Upon learning how serious Ray’s condition was as his cancer returned, his overseas vendors and friends.  Thiers Issard, Dovo / Merkur, Vulfix, and Rooney have all joined together to create three special one of a kind sets to celebrate the vision and accomplishments of Ray Dupont. Full descriptions of these items will be on the tribute page of the ClassicShaving.com website, with pictures to follow as the pieces are finished and sent to us.

Per Ray’s wishes, for every $10 donation to Hospice made through the ClassicShaving.com’s website, the giver will receive an appreciation ticket that will be placed in a drawing with the giver’s name making them eligible to win one of the three special one of a kind sets.

The monies collected will help to establish a Ray Dupont Memorial fund to disseminate knowledge about the existence of Hospice and its availability to those in need.

Representatives of Hospice will draw the winning tickets on the six month anniversary of Ray’s passing and the items will be shipped upon notification of the selected parties.

Anyone wishing to make a donation directly to Hospice and not through the tribute page can do so on the link below.

Ray wanted us to thank all his friends, those who have known him in person as well as those with whom he has developed meaningful relationships across the miles, for the support you have given him since you became aware of his condition.  Your love was a great comfort to him.

Ray and his family shared a love that was, at turns, tempered by adversity and blessed with great joy.  His nobility, intellect, sense of humor, and kindness will be missed by all who knew him.

Thank you all,

Laurie, Danielle & Will
